CARE's mission is to preserve and protect the Cypress Pond Preservation Area.

CARE supports the Town of Southern Shores proposed canal dredging project.  It believes, however, that there are other more suitable ways of disposing of the dredged material.

CARE wants to keep the Town from dumping the material on the Cypress Pond Preservation area and destroying a beautiful, natural and sensitive environment on the common ground.

CARE is compiling a list of interested and sympathetic homeowners who are interested in protecting the environment in Southern Shores and in maintaining the open green space located in Southern Shores.

CARE hopes these individuals will join CARE and lend support, both morally and financially.

CARE  has retained legal counsel to oppose the condemnation action if it proceeds.

The following photograph is a picture of Sand Heather (Hudsonia tomentosa) which is a rare plant which is found within the Chicahauk Cypress Pond Preservation Area.  Another rare plant found within this area is Maritime Pinweed(Lechia maritima var. virginica).

CARE has been formed by concerned citizens living in Southern Shores, North Carolina, both within the Chicahauk subdivision and outside of the subdivision, to oppose the Southern Shores Town Council’s condemnation of the Chicahauk common area.
